Hey everyone! Welcome to the first segment of "Netflix and Chill", where we cover reviews of various movies and series. Here, we will cover some of the best movies which managed not to be on the spotlight. Today, we are going to start of with the 2011 Sci-Fi movie "Limitless".
Genre: Sci-Fi/Mystery/Thriller
With a mix of science fiction, mystery and thrill, Limitless happens to be one of the most appealing movie of the genre. Stars include all-time favorite Bradley Cooper along with Anna Friel and Abbie Cornish.
Plot: 7/10
With the help of a mysterious pill that enables the user to access 100 percent of his brain abilities, a struggling writer(Bradley Cooper) becomes a financial wizard, but it also puts him in a new world with lots of dangers.
An aspiring writer, Eddie Morra, is a loser at work and romance. Recently dumped by girlfriend Lindy he is walking back home when he meets his former brother-in-law Vernon. Vernon gives him an experimental drug called NZT to increase his creativity. Eddie finds the results are more than impressive and decides to seek out Vernon to ask for more pills. But a visit to Vernon's house leads him to a dead body. Eddie dutifully calls the police but pockets the NZT he finds hidden in a stove with a large amount of money. Eddie uses the drug and successfully invests Vernon's money unfortunately raising the attention of a criminal called Gennady. He borrows 100,000 dollars from Gennady who in turn takes an NZT pill. Meanwhile, the powerful investor Carl Van Loon brings Eddie to work in his team in a merging operation. But Eddie is chased by a stranger and pressed by Gennady that want the NZT, threatening his life.
A rather generic story-line where a loser finds a shortcut to success only to be threatened by outside forces. But as the story progresses, the mystery begins to unfold to a rather not-so-generic conclusion.
Characters: 8.5/10
As usual, Bradley Cooper is a standout performer in this movie with his vast acting skills and use of witty humor. Actors Robert De Niro, Anna Friel, Abbie Cornish and many others also hold high esteem in this movie.
Overall, this movie should be on the "Must watch" list of each and all Sci-Fi movie fans as it provides a rather mysterious twist to a generic theme.
An overall deserving score of 8/10 IHMO is in order for this movie.
