Hey guys!! This is my first review for the anime
section of our blog so....it’s not going to be an anime that you have heard so
much about if you have started watching anime recently. We all have watched the
popular anime series like Naruto, fairy tale, One piece, Death note and so on.
But there are so many not so popular series out
there which have amazing animation and graphics, mind blowing plot, never
ending twist and are emotional roller coaster. The 1st anime I ever saw and which got me
hooked to watch some more anime and ultimately turning me into an anime freak
was “Wolf’s Rain”.
Genre: Sci-fi Fantasy/Action/Adventure/Tragedy/bit of and Romance
Wolf's Rain
is an anime series created by writer and story editor Keiko Nobumoto and
produced by Bones Studio. The anime series was well received in Japan, being
the third-ranked anime series in its time-slot while airing on Fuji TV. Wolf's
Rain spans twenty-six television episodes and four series concluding (OVA)
episodes and was Aired in Animax in 2004(though I watched it in 2005). Now
I should really stop the technical blabbering and start with the actual thing
that attracts all the anime lovers. Yes! I am talking about the plot.
Plot: (Rating: 9/10) There is an ancient legend, when the world is near its end another dimension will appear called the ‘paradise’ and the wolf’s can only open it with the Lunar flower. Though the wolf’s were haunted to their extinction but still some of them are still disguised among the human, surviving by casting illusions over themselves to make them appear human. Attracted by the scent of Lunar flower(Cheza, the Flower Maiden who is destined to lead the wolves to Paradise, is being studied at a laboratory) in the freeze city were human live in hardship and poverty, a lone wounded wolf Kiba starts the journey to find her and open paradise. With him as the episodes increases a group of other wolf’s(who were also attracted by the Lunar flower’s smell) start looking for Cheza who was stolen away by Lord Darcia the Third, whose people created Cheza artificially from a Lunar Flower by the using the lost art of alchemy. With the Flower Maiden gone, the wolves have no reason to stay in the city. Despite some initial misgivings and suspicions, they decide to stay together and follow Kiba in his search for the Flower Maiden and Paradise. But now this world is being destroyed and complete covered in ice. So Kiba and the others have only a limited time to find paradise. And if they can't find it during the next full red moon, it's over for all humans and wolves alike. So this is how the story begins! Saying more about the plot is going to ruin all the fun.
So let’s get some initial idea about the characters and the music:
Music: (Rating: 8/10)
My personal favorite track is
Tell Me What the Rain Knows
Second Ending Theme Song (Episode #26) Music composition and Arrangement by Yoko Kanno.
Performed by Maaya Sakamoto.

Characters: (Rating 9.5/10)
Kiba, the main protagonist of the series, is a white wolf who follows his instincts towards Paradise. When he was young, his pack was slaughtered when the forest he lived in was burned to the ground. He was then raised by a Shaman who told him that he had a purpose and told him that he would have a great journey ahead to find Paradise. Kiba begins his quest for Paradise.
Cheza is the Flower Maiden and is the key to opening Paradise. First appearing in a state of suspended animation within a scientific research lab, she was awakened by the smell of wolf's blood spilled in the brief fight between Tsume and Kiba.
Darcia serves as the main antagonist of the series. The third generation of the Darcia family of Nobles, who were said to be cursed after Darcia the First disappeared into "Paradise". As the story of this series unfolds more his true nature and form releases.
Tsume: He is second wolf introduced in the series. At first he lives in Freeze City where he leads a "pack" of human thieves. Tsume who is moody and confident, at times arrogant, and keeps himself distant from his allies. Though he and Kiba continue to come into regular conflict, Tsume eventually comes to believe in their goal and becomes a loyal pack member.
Hige: He is something of a womanizer and is always on the look-out for a female companion. He always has a collar around his neck which is related to much more twists as the story proceeds. He starts off as a laid back joker, though he matures and becomes tense as the series goes on.
Toboe : He is the youngest of the group and has a very childish nature. Toboe was raised as a pet by "Granny", an elderly woman, who died. The silver bracelets are all he has left of her. He maintains an affection for humans that none of the other wolves can understand.
Jaguara : Part of one of the three main Noble Families in this series, fell in love with Darcia to the point of obsession but was rejected by him for her younger sister, for which she never forgave Hamona and is looking for revenge.
The wolves encounter Quent Yaiden a former Sheriff of Kyrios who is obsessed with hunting down wolves, and his dog Blue is actually a wolf awakened by the smell of wolf's blood.
Cher Degré is a very dedicated scientist involved in studying Cheza and is fascinated by Cheza and desires to understand her and her purpose. Hubb Lebowski is a police detective and ex-husband of Cher Degré searches desperately for Cher in most of the episodes of the series and is an excellent lover (from my point of view). She and Hubb were divorced after her work with Cheza became more important than their marriage.
Around these above mentioned characters, the story revolves. This series got me hooked to anime, as I said before, so yes it’s a splendid anime with huge amount of emotion (made me cry a lot), suspense and beautiful animation that will keep you fascinated. Every character has their own dark side and the side that will make you love them (even the villains!). I loved it’s each and every episode and it surely is one of the best anime I ever watched!
If you are looking for a great plot and plot twists, action and character development; I will rate it a 9/10 must watch anime.
